Our Story

The MW Builders’ story began in 1932, when a craftsman named Claude Sanders founded a residential plumbing business in Kansas City, Missouri. In the decades that followed, Claude, his son and three grandsons continued to grow the business into what is now a nationwide, multimillion-dollar construction services company.

Like Claude himself, the Sanders family believed in the power of entrepreneurial spirit. The family’s third generation seized the opportunity to move into general contracting, and expanded that aspect of the business nationally.

As a way to give more accountability to the staff and provide them with personal ownership, in 1999, the Sanders family sold their business to their employees. Then, in 2002, MW Builders became 100% employee owned. (Learn more about our employee-ownership program and leadership team here.)

Our Values

Since inception, MW Builders has been governed by core values. As a company, and as individuals, we value teamwork with mutual respect, entrepreneurial spirit, quality craftsmanship, and integrity above all else.

We see our company’s success as the outward manifestation of these core values — values that shape everything we do.

Integrity is our cornerstone. We believe integrity is everything. It truly drives our every decision. We do what we say and say what we do. By conducting our business according to the highest standards of integrity and ethical behavior, we always tell the truth, keep our promises, and hold ourselves accountable for every decision we make.

We embrace teamwork while respecting the individual. It’s pretty straightforward: We treat people like we want to be treated, encourage positive attitudes, and care about each team member’s health and well-being. The MW Builders Brand

In early 2010, our three locations -- MW Builders, Inc., MW Builders of Texas and MW Flint Hills -- came together as a new, united entity called MW Builders.

The new MW Builders brand offers our partners better, more seamless collaboration across our companies and between our job sites around the country. It gives us new strength.

Now we offer the best of both worlds – the feel of the local company next door paired with the wide presence, perspective and expertise of a national brand.

The “MW” in our name stands for our longstanding history founded on our Midwestern values. “Builders” reflects our essence as craftsmen, people who build high quality buildings, cultivate strong partnerships, attract the best talent, and design innovative solutions.

As MW Builders, we’re better prepared to overcome emerging industry challenges.  We’ve always taken great pride in being innovative and leading our partners through changing times. Our new brand better positions us to do just that. Now, more than ever, we are structured to help our clients navigate the changing marketplace that requires a new way of doing business.
