MW Builders was the general contractor for The Yards — a new, multifamily development in the historic West Bottoms of downtown Kansas City, MO, for repeat client Flaherty & Collins. This 262,000-SF, 5-story, 232-unit, multifamily complex was built using wood-frame construction. It features a modern design with an open sky deck area on the top floor that overlooks downtown Kansas City, complete with outdoor TVs and planter boxes that create an oasis in the middle of the city. Other amenities include an open courtyard in the center of the complex, pool, patio with a fire pit, grill area, dog park, community entertainment kitchen, outdoor covered lounge, and a vineyard. The building’s aesthetics were designed to complement the surrounding historic buildings rather than compete with them. Bike storage, a fitness area, and retail space occupy the first floor and will eventually be finished out for tenant use. The Yards was designed to be focused around the active lifestyle currently found in the Stockyards District, with access to the levy, Kansas River, and trails.
